ABOUT GRESHAM



The city of Gresham was established in 1905, and is Oregon’s fourth largest city (trailing Portland, Eugene, and Salem). The city was named after Walter Quinton Gresham, who served as the United States Postmaster General in 1883. In the year the city was established, it had a population of 365. Today, Gresham has a population of 105,594.

The interurban streetcar was first opened to residents of the Gresham area in 1907. The streetcar would begin transit in Sellwood, Mt. Scott, and Troutdale to Gresham. Gresham’s population grew quickly within a year the streetcar initially opened.

Today, Gresham's historic downtown hosts a number of activities and events such as: the city's farmer's market, Gresham City Art Walk, and the annual Teddy Bear Parade.
